Crowns

A crown surrounds and covers a damaged tooth with a cap made of either porcelain or gold. It’s meant to rebuild and strengthen the tooth while also improving the appearance of your teeth.

We will colour match your crown to the existing colour of your teeth for a natural and flattering look. Sometimes, people choose a lighter colour to achieve a different look for their smile.

Every person has different needs so your dentist will discuss what options you have and what will suit you best. Usually, crowns are made of porcelain or gold, depending on whether they’re placed in the mouth.

After the consultation, a temporary crown is placed on your tooth until the final crown is ready. Once the crown is fitted on your tooth further adjustments may be needed to make sure it fits properly.

Our aim at My Dentist is to make you as comfortable as possible, no matter what the procedure. Contact us today!

Bridges

What do bridges do for your smile? If you have missing teeth, bridges are important for functionality and restoring self-confidence in your smile. Not only that, but they can help you do things like speaking and chewing easier.

Gaps left by missing teeth can cause the teeth to rotate or shift into empty spaces, resulting in an uncomfortable bite. At times, it can even lead to gum diseases or joint disorders.

Bridges are cemented to either natural teeth or implants and use that anchor to span the empty space. You have several choices in materials, and this largely depends on where the bridge will sit in your mouth. Your dentist will help you decide which option is best for you.

Once impressions have been made of your teeth, they’ll be sent to a technician to create the bridge. While your bridge is being created a temporary bridge will be provided until the permanent one is ready to be cemented into your mouth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a crown and a bridge?

A crown is a cap that covers and strengthens a damaged tooth, while a bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by attaching to neighbouring teeth or implants. Both restore function, protect your bite, and improve your smile.

How long do crowns and bridges last?

With regular check-ups and good oral care, crowns and bridges can last 10–15 years or more. Many of our East Auckland patients keep theirs much longer with proper maintenance.

Do crowns and bridges look natural?

Yes. At My Dentist in Pakuranga, we colour-match porcelain crowns and bridges to blend with your natural teeth. Some patients even choose a slightly lighter shade to enhance their smile. Gold crowns are also an option for strength, especially on back teeth.

How much do crowns and bridges cost in East Auckland?

Costs vary depending on the tooth and materials used. At My Dentist in East Auckland, crowns usually range from $1,790, while bridges will vary depending on how many teeth are replaced. We’ll always provide a clear, personalised quote before starting treatment.

Does insurance cover crowns or bridges in New Zealand?

Most NZ dental insurance policies cover part of the cost, especially if the treatment is needed for function (not just appearance). We provide detailed treatment plans for insurers to make the process easier.

Is the crowns or bridge procedure painful?

We use local anaesthetic so you’ll only feel pressure, not pain. For anxious patients in East Auckland, we also offer IV sedation, helping you feel calm and comfortable throughout.

Can I eat normally with a crown or bridge?

Yes, once your permanent crown or bridge is fitted, you can eat most foods as normal. We do recommend avoiding very hard foods (like ice or pork crackling) to prevent damage.

How do I care for my crown or bridge at home?

Daily brushing and flossing are essential. For bridges, we’ll show you how to use floss threaders or interdental brushes to clean underneath. Regular hygiene visits at our Pakuranga clinic will also keep your restoration lasting longer.
