Sedation

For many people, dental anxiety is a real horror that plagues their lives. If that’s the case for you, intravenous or IV sedation might be the way to go in order to feel more comfortable during treatment. IV sedation for complex dental treatments or surgery, such as wisdom teeth removal or dental implants, can also make the experience easier for you and your dentist as you know it will be over more quickly.

IV sedation uses anaesthesia that puts you in a restful state similar to sleep. A small injection is inserted into your arm, where you’ll start to feel drowsy but relaxed. This kind of sedation is the easiest to control out of all the types.

What to expect during the exam:

  • You will remain conscious throughout the treatment but typically little memory is retained
  • You’ll be able to breathe independently
  • No heart rate monitoring is required.

For your safety you must have someone collect you and take you home after the appointment.

Our promise at My Dentist is to make you feel welcome and comfortable. If you think IV sedation is a good option for you, call us at 09 218 8988 or email us at info@mydentist.nz to ask us any questions.
