Dentures

Dentures – or false teeth – replace missing teeth, custom-made to look like your natural teeth. Dentures have evolved throughout the years, and modern techniques are being used in ways they’ve never been used before. Dentures can now also be secured in place with dental implants to improve stability. With this, they can cover less tissue for improved wearability and tasting ability.

There’s nothing wrong or shameful about getting dentures. Millions of adults where them around the world, and they can be used to bring back your best smile if your own teeth are missing.

Benefits of dentures:

  • Improved quality of life – dentures can make it easier to speak clearly again, as well as allowing you to eat foods you missed with fewer teeth
  • Boosted confidence – dentures can give you back your beautiful smile, and give you back your ability to use your mouth normally, and give you back the confidence to thrive in your social life
  • Cost-effective – whether you need a full set or a partial set, dentures are a cost-effective treatment, especially when more natural teeth are present
  • Dentures can last many years if treated with proper care.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are dentures and when are they needed?

Dentures are custom-made removable replacements for missing teeth. They restore function, support facial structure, and improve your smile when natural teeth are missing or need to be replaced.

2. What types of dentures are available?

At My Dentist in Pakuranga, we offer:

  • Full dentures to replace all upper or lower teeth
  • Partial dentures for patients missing only a few teeth
  • Flexible dentures – for patients only a few teeth and require a tighter fit
  • Implant-supported dentures for added stability and comfort compared to traditional braces

We will help you choose the best option for your needs and budget.

3. How long do dentures last?

With good care, dentures can last 5–10 years before they may need relining or replacement. Every person’s situation is different so please consult us on how long your dentures may last.  We recommend regular dental check-ups after your dentures are made help ensure they continue to fit comfortably and last as long as they can.

4. How much do dentures cost in East Auckland?

Costs vary depending on the type and materials used. We’ll provide a detailed quote during your consultation.

5. Will dentures look natural?

Yes. Modern dentures are individually crafted to match your gums, face shape, and remaining teeth for a natural look. Our dentists design them to restore both function and confidence in your smile.

6. Can I eat and speak normally with dentures?

It can take a short adjustment period, but most patients eat and speak comfortably after a few days, sometimes a couple weeks. Start with soft foods and practice speaking at home to get used to your new fit.

7. How do I care for my dentures?

Clean them daily with a soft brush and non-abrasive denture cleaner, and soak them overnight in clean water. Avoid hot water, as it can warp the material. Regular hygiene visits at our clinic in Pakuranga will help keep your mouth and dentures healthy.

8. Are dentures covered by insurance or ACC in New Zealand?

Routine dentures are not covered by ACC unless tooth loss was caused by an accident. Some private dental insurance plans contribute toward the cost — we can help you check what your policy includes.
